Multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer-songwriter; Aela Kae believes the “female” prefix shouldn’t be necessary.
Inspired by the likes of Bon Iver, James Blake, and Grimes (to name a few), Aela Kae positions herself as an auteur: everything heard is conceived and realised alone by her in her bedroom, welcoming the listener into her world. Typically, her music moves across genres and boundaries, as she continues to make a name for herself as one of Sydney’s most promising young electronic artists.
Her one-man live show is a brief glimpse into this creative process. Watching her create, transcend and break down her own art live, the listener feels as though they are discovering Aela Kae’s music right alongside her, as a living, breathing object.
First garnering attention for her heavenly 2014 remix of Hermitude’s ‘Ukiyo', Aela Kae has worked quietly since to refine her sound and artistic voice. She released her latest EP, Mind Your Head, in late 2016, continuing her marriage of textured electronics, vocal manipulations and basis in jazz trumpet, all whilst bringing her unassuming pop sensibilities to the forefront.
Having already notched up over 145,000 plays on Spotify and receiving airtime on Triple J, Aela Kae is only at the beginning of her evidently very promising career. Tracking Aela Kae’s progress into the future will surely give that rare joy of watching an artist discover themselves in realtime.
